Our ticket to Warley 08

As promised… a bit about my visit to the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham. It was a family affair (wife Angie, and the two boys, Mark [10] and Harry [16mths]) and our first time to ‘Warley’. It was certainly bigger than anything we had been to before.

I hadn’t really got anything I particularly wanted to see. I just wanted to go, soak up the experience, and see if it would match up to the expectations. I hadn’t really taken in what layouts would be there, but there were quite a few I was familiar with. Some I knew from local exhibitions and others I knew from the magazines.

The 'Law Junction' layout at Warley '08

One layout I was pleased to see in the flesh was ‘Law Junction’. Although ‘N’ gauge is not my chosen scale, ‘Law Junction’ is one those examples which really brings home to me the advantages of the scale and what can be achieved.

The ‘N’ gauge scale of Law Junction makes quite a large layout look even bigger.

There was a lot more to see besides Law Junction of course. In fact, Warley was so big, I’m not even sure we saw all of it.

I thought I’d been round everything once and then stumbled across Pete Waterman signing books and showing off his Leamington Spa layout in the Video Cinema.

By this point my eldest son was complaining that his legs were aching (as usual). But I wasn’t going to leave without treating myself to a little something.

A little something…

And the little something turned out to be this Heljan Cargowaggon in Blue Circle Cement livery. The weathering on it is a little heavy for my taste, but I read an article recently on taking this back.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and will finish up with some shots I took of the Cargowaggon when I got it home.
