As part of the celebrations of 175 Years of the railways in Derby, East Midlands Trains threw open the doors of it’s Etches Park depot to the public on September 13th 2014, to allow a rare glimpse behind the scenes. It was an opportunity I did want to miss, and I wasn’t disappointed.
There was plenty to see, and do. Here is a small selection of the pictures I took that day. I will be putting the full collection up on the Dales Peak Photostream on Flickr as soon as I can.
As you entered the site you were greeted with a line-up of Class 20’s, masking Derby railway station.
Class 31 ‘Stratford 1840-2001’ was visiting from the Midland Railway Museum – Butterley
There were demonstrations like tyre turning on the wheel lathe and…
… a 4 car train lift demonstration
There were also model railways like Werrington Road in OO gauge and…
…Cottleston model railway in OO gauge
There was plenty of rolling stock and engines to see, like..
And finally, there was this very well produced ‘Etches Park Open Day 2014 Limited Edition Programme’
All in all, a very nice afternoon out was had by all the family.
