Most of the work at the moment is still computer based planning.
I’ve actually been playing around with the idea of adapting the module designs, which I put up on my last post, into a two tier affair. There are several American double, triple and more deck layouts which have appealed to me. Port Kelsey Railway by Tim Warris was one, but that layout no longer exists and Tim has moved on to produce the unusual Bronx Terminal layout.
With a double deck layout the incline slopes would be replaced with a helix. On the old layout about one third of the second level was taken up with the inclines. A helix would give me some more real estate on the top deck.
So far I’ve just segmented the old track plan and roughly placed the pieces over the plans of the proposed modules.
