Ballasting and track plan update

I’ve been working out what happens in the corner of the loft, where the layout turns the corner from Overdale Quarry. I wanted to do this to work out the points and, therefore, signalling which might be needed on the Overdale Quarry module.

Why is this important now? Because I wanted to work out if I needed to install any signal bases on the Overdale Quarry module before I finish the ballasting. The answer, as you can see in the close up of the track plan, is yes. There are two signals, ‘OD1’ and ‘OD3’, situated just before the end of the module. You can follow the ‘Track plan – Dales Peak Mk5’ link at the top of the page for an overview of the track plan progress.

Signal bases in place and ballasting continues

So, before I laid any more ballast I cut two signal bases from 60 thou plastic card, laminating two thicknesses together to get the depth I needed. These were then glued in place and ballasting continues.
