Modern image cable trough for OO gauge – #1

First attempt at some OO gauge metric cable trough
First attempt at some OO gauge metric cable trough

Ten Commandments OO gauge cable troughs were the first scenic elements to be added to the ‘Overdale Quarry’ module. The trouble with the Ten Commandments product and the Wills Kits SS87 Concrete cable trunking are their ‘Imperial’ dimensions. With ‘Dales Peak’ being a modern image layout what I really wanted was some trunking to metric dimensions. Modern concrete trunking sections tend to be produced in 1 metre lengths.

So, whilst ordering some laser cutting recently, I decided to produce a prototype of some modern image cable trough. These are done in 3mm MDF. I’m quite pleased with results and have learnt a couple of useful lessons along the way. For a start, the etched section lines need to be slightly deeper.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to taking this project onto the next stage, by producing a complete set of straight cable troughs plus corner and junction sections.
